Ability aims: 1) to guess the meaning of a new word according to the picture and context 2) to grasp the clue and structure of the text after reading quickly 3) to use different reading skills according to different reading purposes 3. Emotion aims: 1) to encourage students to learn more about animals and love them 2) to encourage students to get along well with animals 3) to encourage students to help each other II. Teaching Procedures Pre-reading Step 1.Discussion Let the students look at the title of Unit 5, and show them the following questions: 1.What animal do you like ? 2.Where does it usually live ? 3.What habits does it have ? Give the students some minutes to find the answers, and get them to exchange answers with their partners. Then ask some students to say out their answers in pairs (One asks, and the other answers.) Step 2.Getting Ready 1. Exercise 1 According to where animals live, animals can be divided into four groups in Ex 1.How many names of animals do you know ? Write down as many as you can in each group. Then exchange your answers with your partner. After that, divide the students into four parts, each part of students collecting a group of animal names. And then one student of each part gathers all the animal names from his part to tell other students. 2. Exercise 2. Every animal has its own habits. In Ex 2 there are some animals and habits.
