AbstractAbstractInthisexperiment,thenonlinearpropertiesandtheimagestoragepropertyofthevolumegratingwrittenbytwo-wavecouplingofHe-Ne632.8nmlaserbeaminaCr:KNSBNcrystalwerestudied.Basedonthenonlinearpropertiesofthecrystal,opticalimageedgeenhancementwasachievedintwo-wavecouplingcoherentsystem.Whentheincidentbeams were bothextraordinarilypolarized, somespecificparameters weredetermined,includingthegaincoefficient,thediffractionefficiencyofthevolumegratingandtheresponsetimewithrespecttotheparametersofthewritingbeams,suchasthesignal-to-pumpbeamintensityratio,thetotalincidentintensity,theanglebetweentwowritingbeams;andthenonlinear propertythatdiffractionefficiencyexhibitedaloopwiththevariationofthefringemodulation.Theexperimentaldatashowedthattheeffectivegainandthediffractionefficiencywould not change with the total incident intensity; the response time was in inverseproportiontothesignal-to-pumpbeamintensityratioandthetotalincidentintensity;thediffractionefficiencywasabove20%whentheincidentanglewasfrom10oto25o;andtheresponsetimewas5.3swhentheexperimentalparameterswereselectedasfollows:theincidentanglebetweenthesignalbeamandthepumpbeamwas12o,thetotalincidentintensitywas40mW/cm2,andtheincidentbeamintensityratiowas0.33.Thenwithdifferentincidentparametersunderthenon-simultaneousreadoutcondition,thetransmittedintensityof thesignalbeamandthepumpbeamwasmeasuredasafunctionofthetimeduringthetwo-wavecouplingprocess.Also,thetransmittedintensityofthepumpbeamwiththesignalbeamshuttingwasmeasured,whichwasshownthatthebeamfanningeffectintheCr:KNSBNcrystalthatwasusedinourexperimentwasinconspicuousbycalculatingtheequivalentintensityofthefanningbeam.Theresultwasprovedintheimagestorageexperiment.Atlast,basedonthenonlineardiffractionpropertyofthecrystal,opticalimageedgeenhancementoperationwasachieved.Thedegreeoftheopticalimageedgeenhancementdependedonthesignal-to-pumpbeamintensityratio.Whenthesignal-to-pump beamintensityratiowasmorethan1/10,theedgeenhancementimagewasclear,andthesignalto-noisera
