Williams, MD,* Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer, USP ABSTRACT The Food Chemicals Codex (FCC) is a compendium of monographs for food ingredients begun in 1961 following passage of the 1958 Food Additive Amendments to the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Volunteer experts of the Committee on the Food Chemicals Codex of the Institute of Medicines (IOMs) Food and Nu- trition Board developed and maintained FCC through the 5th edition with a single Supplement. In August 2006 USPs Board of Trustees purchased FCC from IOM and intends to continue its publication as one of USPs four compendia. This Stimuli article considers the opportunities and risks associated with the Boards decision.
