PAGE PAGE 18 Happiness and Tragedy in Gatsby‘s Life 摘要 这篇小说《了不起的盖茨比》是美国著名作家弗朗西斯·斯科特·基·菲茨杰拉德的代表作品，被认为是他文学生涯的杰作之一，该小说向读者全面展示了美国爵士时代人们的生活。 该篇小说讲述了主人公盖茨比在军队时，邂逅了一位漂亮的名媛黛西，两人一见倾心，但可惜的是盖茨比在那时并没有钱，没办法给她更好的生活，不久后盖茨比就离开了离，随军到欧洲去了。战争结束后，盖茨比回到美国，做生意赚了不少钱，然后想方设法见到了梦中情人黛西，但最终却被黛西背叛，死于悲剧。 我选择本文重点是分析真实的盖茨比和他的一生。 关键词：盖茨比；悲剧；梦想； Abstract This novel The Great Gatsby is the master viscometer work written by American famous writer Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, and is regarded as one of the masterpieces in his literature career, the novel want to depict American people’s life of Jazz Age. The novel tells the story about the hero Gatsby when he Join the army, he meet Daisy who comes from a respectable family, both of them are love at the first sight, but it is a pity that Gatsby have no money at that time, so he can’t afford the life which Daisy want to live, soon after Gatsby go to Europe with his army. After the war ended, he come back to the United States and earns a lot of money, then he tries every means to meet his dream lover Daisy, but unfortunately he is betrayed by Daisy and finally died in the tragedy. I choose this thesis is mainly because I want to analyzes the truly Gatsby and his whole life. Key Word：Gatsby； Tragedy；Dream； 1. Introduction Francis Scott Fitzgerald is one of the most important writers in 20 century’s American literature. His work vividly reflects the broken of the American dreams during that period, which lays the foundation of his fame in the United States and the whole world. He is regarded as the spokesperson of the whole generation. Gatsby and Daisys break up of being in love is a very common love story. But the author regarded Daisy as a symbol of youth, money and status, as means the pursuit of rich material life the America Dream . Gatsby run out of his feelings and talent in pursuit Daisy, and finally kills off his own life. He is innocent into thinking that the money will redeem the lost love. Unfortunately, he is wrong. He thinks wrong about Da
