Introduction 1.1 A Brief Introduction to D. H. Lawrence and Lady Chatterley’s Lover D. H. Lawrence (1885--1930) is one of the most prominent and controversial authors in the English literature of 20th century. His works are constantly under severe criticism due to their excessive depiction of eroticism. Nevertheless, he endeavors to explore the depth of souls of mankind, and the relationship of certain male and female characters he created in his works happens to coincide with the structural mode of Freudian school. Lady Chatterleys Lover is his last novel created at a time when Lawrence had acquired a more contemplative understanding of feminine consciousness. Lady Chatterleys Lover mainly provides an account of the lively and dynamic romantic story between Connie, wife of the British aristocrat Clifford, and the local ranger Mellors after WWII. Not long after their marriage, Sir Clifford was badly injured in the war and was rendered permanently paralyzed from waist downwards. The loss of sexuality turned Clifford into a selfish and indifferent person who inflicted subsequently suffocating pain and agony upon Connie’s physical and mental life. It was when Clifford implored Connie to continue the family by asking her to marry another man that the eagerness for a brand-new life was aroused inside Connie. Connie became infatuated with the ranger Mellors, subsequently haunted his hut and in return buried herself in completely vitalizing sexual experiences. However, the revelation of Connie’s pregnancy by Mellors’s ex-wife made both Connie and Mellors obliged to leave Wragby and start a new life somewhere else. Taking into account their pursuit of freedom and joy, Connie and Mellors were
