PAGE PAGE 22 Analysis of Two Translation Versions in Moby Dick 摘要 赫尔曼·麦尔维尔是美国十九世纪最伟大的小说家、散文家和诗人之一，也是美国浪漫主义文学的代表之一。《白鲸》作为其代表作，书中不仅向读者介绍了结合作者自身航海经验的经历，同时呈现了十九世纪时的捕鲸场面；除此之外，书中还加入了大量的捕鲸知识和与航海相关的历史事件，同时也包含作者对人生和宗教的哲理性思考以及对当时某些社会现象的批判。 本文从原著中的三种叙事视角出发比较分析《白鲸》两个中译本，其一为成时译本，其二为曹庸译本。首先是第一人称叙事角度，在这个角度下作者主要用了反复、象征及反讽的手法；其次是其他人物的叙事角度，这部分主要是通过不同人物的语言来表现；最后则是拼贴式语言的叙事角度，作者用科学严谨及哲学思辨式的语言抒发自我观点。通过比较可以发现，成时在翻译过程中选词都更加贴近英语原文，语言显得较为质朴平实使读者能够更容易理解小说；而曹庸译本相对来说具有更强的文学性，能够给目的语读者以美的享受。在遵循原文结构方面，曹庸译本把握得更好，而成时译本则常常会按照译者自身的理解而修改原作者精心安排的结构。 关键词：《白鲸》，叙事视角，翻译 Abstract Herman Melville is one of the American greatest novelists and poets in 19th century, who is also a representative of American Romanticism. As?his masterpiece, Moby Dick introduces readers sailing experience that is?related to the author’s own experience and presenting scenes about whaling in 19th century; besides, the novel offers a great amount of knowledge about whaling and sailing history, and the author’s philosophical thinking about religion and human life as well as his criticism about the social phenomenon. This thesis studies the two translation versions of Moby Dick, -- one is Cheng Shi’s translation and another is Cao Yong’s translation -- from three narrative perspectives in this novel. Firstly, the novel adopts the first-person narrative language, which mainly uses repetition, symbolism and irony in this part. Secondly, other characters’ narrative perspective is presented by the characters’ words. Thirdly, by collected narrative language, the author uses scientific and philosophical tones to express his ideas. We can see that Cheng’s translation is literal and closer to the English content, which could help readers understand the novel easily; on the contrary, Cao gives readers a more literary translation that can bring enjoyment to them. As for following the original structure, Cao’s translation is better, because Cheng’s translation always changes it from translator’s own understanding. Key words: Moby Dick, narra
