However, at this time, he met a shark, and the old man and the shark had a life and death struggle. Finally the fish?was eaten by the shark, and the old man dragged home only a bare skeleton of the fish. The?novel is rich in symbolic images, including the sea, the shark, child, marlin and so on. Through analyzing these images and explore their symbolic meaning, we can gain better understanding of the novel.
