He is strong, tolerant, kind and emulative. Even failed and faced with irreversible fate, he is still the strong of life, the failing winner, and the code hero in our mind. “The Old Man and The Sea” is one of Ernest Hemingway’s most enduring works. It established Hemingway’s outstanding status in world literature, and it was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1953 and continued to be awarded the Noble Prize in Literature in 1954. This paper attempts to interpret Santiago’s outstanding qualities in the perspectives of how abstract spirits enrich original empty life, failing winner ,and so on. And from this we can see how Santiago’s outstanding qualities are presented with the development of plots and have a better understanding of Hemingway’s philosophy.
