Methods Anambispectivecohortstudywasdesigned.Attackrate(AR)andrelativerisks(RR)were calculated to identify the causes ofgastroenteritis.Investigationsusing questionnaires included personalinterviewswithpatientsanddoctors,reviewsofmedicalrecords,laboratoryexaminationsof fecalspecimensandcontinuoushygienemonitoringofwatersamplesfrom thewaterworks. Results 0veraIlJ427/71534(AR=5.97%0)caseswereidentifiedbetweenOctober31andNovembet12 2010.Geographicdistributionwashighlylocalized,with80%ofcasesoccurringintheareassuppliedby waterworks—A.Consumptionofwaterprovidedsolelybywaterworks.Awasfoundtobeassociatedwith iIIness(RR=8.2O,95CI%:6.12-10.99)cornparedwiththatfromwaterworks—B.Micr0bi0logicaIanalyses confirmedthepresenceofNorovirusinsixofeightfecaIsamplesfrom symptomaticpatients.twowater samplesfrOm waterworks—A andtwosewagesamples.Aftertakingeffectivemeasures.thehygienic indicesofwaterworks—A methealthcriteriaagainonNovember9andnocaseswerereported3days later.
