228 BiomedEnvironSci，2011；24(3)：228—233 OriginalArticle FactorsAssociatedwithGenericandDisease—specificQualityofLifeinEpilepsy HUANG HuaPin ，CHEChunHui，LIU ChangYun ，JIANG Fang，andMAO XiaoHong ／．DepartmentofNeurology,UnionHospitalAffiliatedtoFujianMedicalUniversity,Fuzhou350001，Fujian,China 2．DepartmentofTraditionalChineseMedicine,UnionHospitalAffiliatedtoFujianMedicalUniversity,Fuzhou 350001，Fujian，China Abstract Objective Toinvestigatetheassociationbetweenqualityoflife(O!OL)andsociodemographicfactors， clinicalseizurefactors．depressionandanxietyinpatientssufferingfrom epilepsy． Methods Weexamined141consecutivepatientswithepilepsy(meanage25．8+9．6，61．7％male)．All patientscompletedtheSelf-RatingDepressionScale，Self-RatingAnxietyScale，WHOO,OL—BREFand O．OLIE一31(Chineseversion)．Multiplelinearregressionanalyseswereappliedtoinvestigatefactors impactonO!OL． Results TheresultsreveaIedthatscoresontwodomainsoftheWHOQOL—BREF(i．e．，physicaIand psychologicaIdomains，P0．05)weresignificantlylowerintheepilepsygroupcomparedwiththecontroI group．Mu…tpie regression analyses showed that anxiety．depression and course explained approximately40％ofthevarianceinpatientsQOL．Anxietywasconsistentlythestrongestpredictorof Iowerscoreson almostaIIO!OLdomains．In addition．the severity ofdepressive symptomswas significantlyassociatedwithIowerscoresacrossmanyO,OLdomains． Conclusion OurfindingssuggestthatO,OLIEscoresm ightbesubstantiallyaffected bythepresence andseverity ofanxietysymptomsand，to a lesserdegree，ofdepressive symptomsand prolonged courseofillness．Incontrast，clinicalseizurevariableshadaweakerassociationwithO．OL．Healthcare professionalsshouldbeawareofthesignificanceofpatientsemotionalstateandoftheroleitplaysin
