Douglas Brown (1994, p.1) states that the academic courses in foreign languages are often insufficient for successful learning of a foreign language. Only within the confinement of the classroom, few people can achieve fluency in foreign language. Many scholars also advocate that successful language teaching and learning can not be simply confined to the traditional classroom (Cai Jigang, 2005; Zhao Zhongde 2001; Xu Jinfen 2004; Yu Jun 2006; Shu Dingfang 2004). It is also stated in New Teaching Syllabus for English Majors (2000) that Extracurricular English Learning (EEL) is an indispensable part of the whole process of English teaching and learning and it is of vital importance in promoting students’ development. Now with the development of Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL), learning is not restricted to the traditional teaching-learning model where learning can only happen in a physical classroom. Computer technology facilitates EEL greatly and becomes powerful and useful leaning aid to construct virtual classes for students. Under CALL environment (CE), students can get not only materials presented in various multimedia forms, but also voluminous information that is connected by hyperlinks. Because of these characteristics brought by technology, autonomous and collaborative learning (AL CL) can be implemented more effectively.
