Introduction 1. On 22 November 1988, the General Assembly adopted resolution 43/47, entitled “International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism”, which read in part as follows: “The General Assembly, “Recalling that the year 1990 will mark the thirtieth anniversary of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and
