The ancient Greeks recognized the clinical features of cirrhosis. 2. In the seventeenth century , sporadic reports of the cirrhotic liver appeared. 3. Matthew Baillies accurate description in 1793 established cirrhosis as a nosological entity in pathology. 4. During the mid-nineteenth and late-nineteenth century , technical innovation has advanced our understanding of cirrhosis. History Definition Cirrhosis is a chronic hepatic disorder, anatomically characterized by diffuse liver fibrosis and nodule formation. Classification Classification Cirrhosis is classified on the basis of morphology and etiology. The international classification recognizes three types based on the size of the nodules .However ,Chinese classification are based on pathogenesis and clinical manifestations. Geography, race, age, sex, economic, social class and occupation; 2. The amount, duration ,and pattern of alcohol consumption; 3. Prevalence of hepatitis viruses.
