His plasma total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TGs), high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) and apolipo- protein A-I (apo A-I) levels were 7.2, 2.1, 1 mmol/l and 128 mg/dl, respectively. During the clinical course of treatment of this patient, his plasma levels of HDL-C and apo A-I declined drastically to levels of as low as 0.2 mmol/l and 10 mg/dl, respectively, with concurrent reciprocal increase in plasma TG leve
