JournalofAgriculturalScienceandTechnologyB1(2011)138—145 Earliertitle：JournalofAgriculturalScienceandTechnology，ISSN 1939-1250 HeterosisandInbreedingDepressioninSunflower c．SaetangandT．Machikowa SchoolofCrop ProductionTechnology，InstituteofAgriculturalTechnoloyg，SuranareeUniversityofTechnology，Nakhon Ratchasima30000．Thailand Received：October25，2010／Published：May20，2011 Abstract：lnofrmationonheterosisandinbreedingdepressionforyieldandagronomiccharactersISessentiaIforsunflower(Helianthus aHnuusL．)breedingprograms．Thisresearchwasconductedtoevaluateheterosisandinbreedingdepressionforyieldandagronomic charactersofhybridsinvolvingeightsunflowerinbredlines．Theseinbredlineswerecrossedin8~8halfdialleltoobtain28Flhybrids． The28hybrids ereself-pollinatedtoproducetheF2generation．The8parents，28Fihybridsand28F2populationswereevaluated usingarandomizedcompleteblockdesignwiththreereplicationsattwolocationsinNakhonRatchasimafSUTFarm andNational CornandSorghum ResearchCenter、in2009．Mid—parentheterosisandinbreedingdepressionwereestimatedofryield，headdiameter， oilcontent，1，000-seedweightandplantheight．Significantdifferenceswerefoundamongtheparents，FIhybridsandF2populations foralltraits．Flhybrid meansweresignificantly higherthan the parentalmeansofralltraits．In addition，Fihybridsshowed considerableheterosisandheterobeltiosiswhencomparedwiththemid-parentandbetterparents，respectively．Yield，oilcontentand plantheightshowedhighlypositiveheterosisinFlhybrids，rangingfrom 14．48to49．45％，8．88to33．22％ and9．5ito29．25％， respectively．Similarly，heterobeltiosiswerepositivesignificantofryield(19．22to49．04％)，oilcontent(8．65to28．30％)andplant height(2．83to27．61％)．However，1，000-seedweightshowedalow levelofheterosisinFlhybrids(9·I36to8．07％)，Meansofryield， oilcontent．1．000-seedweightandplantheightinF2populationswerelowerthantheirrespectiveFihybrids．Inbreedingdepressionin theF2populationswascomparativelyhighofryield，oilcontentandplantheight．Thecrossoflines5A ×2Agavethehighestheterosis ofr
