Abstract:Sesamum,animportantoilyieldingcropsuffersahugelossinitsyieldduetoattackoflargenumberofNngalpathogens.In
semi—aridregionsSesamumismainlyaffectedbytwomajorplant—pathogenicfungusviz.MacrophominaphaseolinaandFusarium
oxysporum Theaim ofthestudywastoanalyzethemetabolicalterationsinSesamum afterinfectionwithbothpathogens.This
accomplishedbyindividuallyby(thewordestimatingisnotquantitative)thelevelsoftotalphenoliccompoundsandtheactivitiesof
phenylalanineammonialyase(PAL)ofoneweekoldplants.ThePALshowedhighactivityininfectedplants,revealingtheactive
phaseinthesynthesisofsecondarymetabolitesintheSesamurnplantafterinfection.Asaconsequence.ininfectedplantsthecontents
ofpolyphenolsalongwith salicylicacid (SA1considerablyexceededwhencomparedtocontrolplants.Thisinvivo studyof
phaseolinaand oxysporum infectionrevealsthedifferencesofresistancelevelsinsesameagainstthesetwopathogens.Theseresults
provideimportantinformationregardingtheplant—pathogeninteractionsandalsoforforSesamzlm improvementprogram sseekingthe
adaptationtodiverserangeoffungalattackalongwithadverseenvironmentaIfactors.
