The present paper aims to discuss the application of Pender’s HPM in COPD exacerbations and the potential benefits of this model in promoting positive health outcomes for these patients. Introduction COPD is a progressive and life-threatening respiratory disease that causes a significant burden on patients, healthcare systems, and society as a whole. COPD is characterized by persistent respiratory symptoms, airflow limitation, and inflammation of the airways. The primary risk factor for COPD is cigarette smoking, but other factors such as air pollution, occupational exposure, and genetics can also contribute to its development. COPD exacerbations are acute events that result in a worsening of COPD symptoms, including increased coughing, wheezing, dyspnea, sputum production, and other respiratory distress symptoms. Exacerbations can be caused by infections, air pollution, or other environmental factors. COPD exacerbations can lead to the need for hospitalization, greater healthcare costs, and a poorer quality of life for the patient. Therefore, effective management of COPD exacerbations is essential to prevent adverse outcomes and improve patients’ health outcomes.
