Liu One-dimensional ( 1D) titanium dioxide (TiO ) 2 has exten sive technological application s b ecau se of it s ch emical stab ility, gen er al r eactivity, high photocatalytic activity, and nontoxicity. Heterogeneous ph ot ocat aly st s wer e sh own t o b e m or e effective than either pure anatase or rutile phase TiO2 . The enhanced performance of the mixed phase TiO2 was attributed to the spatial charge separation and hindered recombination across the phase interfaces. The mixed phase 1D TiO2 nanorods were suspended in solution and obtained by centrifugation and sintering, thus it was difficult to preserve as a large-scale nanorod array film. In this research, a large-scale, transparent, and free-standing film of 1-D rutile/anatase TiO2 nanorod arrays was fabricated by dynamically changing the acidity and concentrations of titanium and chloride ions. Oriented attachment, pre-nucleation clusters of ions or of primary particles was introduced to form hybrid organic– inorganic interfaces in a solvent- based environment .
