中国传统家具著作的英译问题 许美琪 上海家具研究所 摘要： 中国传统家具是中国传统文化的物化，具有独特的民族性，在文化性方面也更 具有中华文明的个性。在世界家具史上，中国传统家具代表了东方文明，浸淫着 儒家和道家精神，这与西方古典家具具有浓厚的基督教精神大异其趣。向世界推 介中国传统家具，对促进东西方文明的交融和了解，让世界认识中国，具有十 分重要的意义。中国传统家具博大精深，加之东西方语言、文化上的差界，要把 中国传统家具的著作“信、雅、达”地译成英文，决非易事。本文从中国传统家 具的文化渊源、形制、结构工艺、用材、装饰、配件等诸方面讨论了对中国传统 家具著作的英译问题。 关键词： 中国的;传统家具;著作;英译; 作者简介：许美琪（1945-），男，教授，研究方向:家具设计与制造、木材加工 理论与技术，E-mai 1: xn0504@sina. con English Translation about the Works of Chinese Traditional Furniture Xu Meiqi Abstract： Chinese traditional furniture with unique nationality is materialization of Chinese traditiorml culture and have a stronger character in their culture. Tn the history of the world furniture, Chinese traditional furniture contaminatcd with Confucianism and Daoism rcprcscntcd the Eastern civilization, which is very different from the Western tradition in furniture to be that of “Christendom” . To introduce Chinese traditional furniture into the world have a great significanee in promoting Eastern ci vi 1 ization emd Western civi 1 ization to be blended and understood each other and to let the world cognize China. Because Chinese traditional furniture is broad and profound and the existenee of big difference bet ween Chinese emd En glish emd of their cult ures, it is very difficult to train sla tc the works of Chin esc t rad itio nal furn iturc into English with faithfulness, expressiveness and taste. In this article, the cultural sources, the shape and strueture, the construction technique, woods and secondary materials, the decorations for Chinese traditional furniture are discussed?
