Can go down to the level of the individual practitioner – needs to know how well they are doing/teaching and learning/impact on learners * Project came out of practitioners expressing concerns over the burden of performance measurement – CSD practitioner Voices (2009) – practitioners having something to add to policy on the demand led-approach eg responding to what industry (and learners) need. We all recognise how greater practitioner/sector lead on performance measurement could benefit the whole process but do we accept how crucial this role is? This is rarely discussed/debated. Project began as a series of questions aimed at understanding the why, what, how and for whom of performance measurement – the hypothesis looked to investigate if greater practitioner engagement in the design and delivery of performance measures can enhance cost-effectiveness What can we learn from other nations and publicly funded sectors? An element of reflection in studies – i.e. how can the current system respond to current policy issues/changes like reduced funding and increased competition International and sectoral comparisons FE in other nations - mainly OECD and EU. eg Denmark, England, Ireland, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Scotland, New Zealand, South Africa, Africa and the United States Publicly funded sectors in the UK eg the police and health HE Literature review Evaluative studies – of current systems eg pros cons Descriptive studies – development of current systems Studies exploring alternatives principles Case studies Stakeholder interviews Identified through the literature review Invited to provide further comment * Gap in research on the benefits (or otherwise) of greater practitioner involvem
