Air filtration ii. Water purification iii. CO2 sequestration (separation of N2/CO2 using carbon molecular sieve  membranes) iv. Adsorption of gases such as hydrogen sulphide, nitrogen dioxide,  sulphur dioxide and ammonia and v. Adsorption of phenol, cadmium, arsenite and iodine from aqueous solutions Calotropis gignatea is a plant with diverse applications. The fiber from the fruit of Calotropis gigantea s used as a textile fabric analogous to cotton (Tuntawiroon et al., 1984). The roots of the plant aids the accumulation and removal of radio nuclides like 90Sr and 137Cs (phytoremediation) from nuclear waste streams (Susan et al., 2006). The ash from the seeds of the plant is used for the treatment of asthma  (Savithramma et al., 2007). The flower extracts of the plant are used as a potential analgesic (Pathak et al., 2007).
