Methods Obtain follicles from different scalp areas(occipital area of non-hair loss,hair loss transition and hair loss zone area) of 10 male AGA(androgenetic alopecia) patients and 3 normal scalp. Use immunohistochemistry method to study AR expressions in hair follicles in different regions. Results In the hair follicle bulge and infundibulum,AR expressions in hair loss area and the transitional area are obviously stronger than those in the occipital and the normal control group (P0.05) in occipital area,hair loss area and the transitional area, but there are significant differences compared to normal control group (P0.05). Conclusion The AR expressions are different between different regions. In the hair follicle bulge and infundibulum, AR expressions in hair loss area and the transitional area are obviously stronger than those in the occipital. This may be one of the key factors leading to male pattern hair loss.
