AbstractClusters,asanewformofsubstance,showmanynovelanduniqueproperties bothinphysicsandchemistry.Thedetailedknowledgeoftheatomicstructureof clustersandthedependenceofstructureonsizeisanintriguingissue.Duetotheir uniquegeometricalarrangements,physical,chemical,electronicandmagnetic properties,thestudiesofclusterscangreatlyfacilitateandpromotethefundamental andappliedresearchofmanyrelatedsubjects,suchasphysics,chemistryand materials.Alclustersabsorbatomormolecule,whichcouldbringaboutthevarietyof structureandelectronicproperties.Studiesonthemhelptounderstandelectronic propertiesofclustersanddiscoverclustersthatarechemicallystable.Andwecan fabricateclusterassemblednanostructureswithdesiredproperties.Meanwhile,the ruleofclustersabsorptionwillhelpustobetterunderstandtheabsorptionproperties ofaluminum bulk and the surface.Inpresentwork,thestudiesonthestructureandelectronicpropertiesof adsorptionofOHonAl13andAl7clustersareperformedbydensityfunctionaltheory calculations.For Al13OHclusters,C1(I) andIhontopforms are theground-state structuresforneutralandanionicAl13OH,respectively;andthehollowformisnot stable.ThestructureofAl13moietiesdramaticallychangesforAl13OHduetothe chargetransferfromAl13 clustertoOH.WhiletheAl13 moietiescankeeptheir13structuresbecauseoftheextraelectronlocalizedonthemoietyinAl OH―clusters.13ThebindingstrengthofOHtoAl ―andAl13aresimilarinmanycases.Populationanalysisshowsthatthebondingcharacteristicoftheseclustersismainlyionic.For13Al OH―clusters,theontopformsaremorestablethanthebridgeforms.Thelargebinding energy and HOMO-LUMO gap imply that neutral clusters would be physically and chemically stable.ForAl7OHclusters,OHpreferstooccupytheontopsiteofAlatoms;andthehollowformisnotstable.TheAl7moietiescankeeptheirstructuresinontopform Al7OHcluster,whileitdramaticallychangeforbridgeformones.Thebinding strengthbetween Al7and OHaremuchlarger than that ofAl7I andAl7H.Thebonding characteristicofAl7–OHismainlyionicaccordingtopopulationanalysis.The one-electronener
