First, the report examines the maturation of a Chaoxianzu ethnic framework within the political system of the People’s Republic of China. This section analyzes how immigrant Chaoxiazu gained Chinese citizenship and how the Yanbian Korean Autonomous County came to existence - a central issue in ethnic politics. Second, the report examines the grass-root-level ethnic relationship with the Han Chinese in local societies from Chinese society’s perspective. The third section considers the Han Chinese/Chaoxianzu ethnic union organization that was established during the socialist market economy unification after the formation of the PRC, which fore- grounded this ethnic relationship.
