Unit 3 Language and Culture;学习任务;Text A Language of China ;导读：狭义的中国话即为汉语，是全球华人的母语，以北京话为源发展的语言。在台湾地区，又称国语。在新加坡、马来西亚等地又称华语。汉语是世界主要语言之一。属汉藏语系，是这个语系里最主要的语言。产生于中国中部，定型于汉朝，最初是汉民族的通用语，后来发展成为中华民族的共同语。除了中国以外，汉语还分布在新加坡、马来西亚等地。以汉语为母语的人大约有13亿（3000万人作为第二语言）。汉语是联合国的工作语言之一。 ;Hokkien (闽南语)：is a group of mutually intelligible Min Nan Chinese dialects spoken by many overseas Chinese throughout Southeast Asia. Its originated from the same dialect in southern Fujian and is mutually intelligible with the Hokkien in Taiwan. It is closely related to Teochew, though mutual comprehension is difficult, and somewhat more distantly related to Hainanese. The Amoy and Taiwanese prestige dialect are considered standards. ;; The history of the Middle East dates back to ancient times, and throughout its history, the Middle East has been a major centre of world affairs. When discussing ancient history, however, the term Near East is more commonly used. The Middle East is also the historical origin of major religions such as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The Middle East generally has an arid and hot climate, with several major rivers providing for irrigation to support agriculture in limited areas. Many countries located around the Persian Gulf have large quantities of crude oil.
