These include fire, storm, collision, pilferage, leakage and explosion, etc. Goods traveling to another country must be insured against loss and damage at each stage of their journey so that whatever mode of transport is being used, neither the transporter nor the customer suffers any loss. ; Insurance is provided to cover almost any kind of happenings that may result in loss. Its purpose is to provide compensation for those who suffer from loss or damage. So it is also called a contract to restore to their position a person who suffers loss. When insured parties experience a loss for a specified peril, the coverage entitles the policyholder to make a claim against the insurer for the covered amount of loss as specified by the policy. The fee paid by the insured to the insurer for assuming the risk is called the premium. ;Insurance premiums from many insurants are used to fund accounts reserved for later payment of claims—in theory for a relatively few claimants—and for overhead costs. So long as an insurer maintains adequate funds set aside for anticipated losses (called reserves), the remaining margin is an insurers profit. ; Insurance was used for maritime losing, because in the past, there were a lot of risks on ocean shipping. But now it means various kinds of perils and losses encountering in goods transit.
