To reinforce some basic linguistic knowledge by doing various types of exercises. About the text What’s the theme of the text? II. Structural analysis of the text Main idea of each part: Part One (1-2) --- It gives a brief account of the narrator’s father and points out the theme of the text. Part Two (3-10) --- It provides a detailed account of how the father showed profound affection for his daughter on Valentine’s Day. Part Three(11-12) --- The narrator tells us how important it has been to her over the years to know that she had such a great father and that she will never forget her father and kindness to her. III. some difficult sentences, words or phrases 1. He didn’t truly shine until Valentine’ s Day. Explain: The festival that really delighted him was Valentine’s Day. 2. My first recollection of the magic he could bring to Valentine’s Day came when I was six. Explain: My first memory of the joy Dad brought to me on Valentine’s Day goes back to the year when I was six. 3. That box and its contents ushered in a succession of bittersweet memories. Explain: That box and its contents led to a series of memories which were a mixture of the sweet ones and the bitter ones. 4. As I grew older, the gifts gave way to heart shaped boxes.
