Amy, in The Joy Luck Club, specially weaves an exquisite tapestry presenting the four immigrants’ bewilderment at American culture and their struggles to inculcate their Chinese cultural heritage in their daughters. In such a story-telling way, Amy describes, from the perspectives of different characters, the confusion of fierce love and misunderstanding which lies between the two generations. The reason for the conflict depicted becomes evident when Amy Tan sets her novel background in the cultural shock.
