The prognosis of HCC is associated with the varieties of the biological properties of cancer cells. Modern techniques and new methods have brought new challenges for surgical treatment of HCC, and subsequently led to a confusion of choice of treatment modalities for HCC and the waste of medical resource. As much more attention has been paid to earlier diagnosis and treatment for HCC, surgical treatment remains the dominant strategy. Laying equal stress on both local and systemic therapy, combining surgical treatment with new modalities, and emphasizing evidence-based medicine and multidisciplinary composite treatment, will improve the efficacy of surgical treatment for HCC.
