I deeply appreciate the sacrifices they have made for me, without which I would not be where I am now. i Abstract As a basic clause pattern, double object construction (abbreviated as DOC) has received comprehensive analyses from numerous angles. The present paper attempts to explore the differences between English and Chinese DOC from the angles of grammatical meaning and domain of conceptual content in frame and to provide three reasons for the differences. In the present thesis, grammatical meaning of DOC is analyzed from the angle of the direction of the transferring object in it. The grammatical meanings of English and Chinese DOC differ from each other: English DOC is single-directional—only rightward DOC is ac
