Here we study the context of Keyuan historical development from the construction phase at the end of the Qing dynasty, the repair phase after the founding of the people s Republic of China, and the reconstruction and expansion phase nowadays. We find out the typical transformation of Keyuan ’ from classical private garden to urban public landscape . Moreover, the results indicate that the influence of transformation to urban “ ” “ ” pattern and public life, it shows that opening of Keyuan eases shortage of urban public green space and optimizes public space in Dongguan City. Our research aim to provide reference to protect and develop traditional gardens.
