IntroductionLanguage is a system, and teachers teach language in a systematic way and students learn it in a systematic way as well. In the process of language learning, learners construct rules from the data they encounter and gradually adapt these rules in the direction of the target language system. Obviously, this means that learners’ errors can provide some evidence for the learners’ development system. In learning, errors may appear at any time and in any form. Without further learning or other’s correction, no one can correct all their errors or avoid making any error.The teachers’ main job is to introduce new knowledge, set up some tasks and help students be successful in foreign language learning. As to errors, teachers should try to identify them, classify them, describe them and explain them in a proper way. Furthermore, errors can tell us about the students’ weaknesses in their language learning. So in this paper, the author uses error analysis to analyze common errors in writing for the college students. As to writing error analysis abroad, many experts have conducted researches on it. The author chose 30 college students compositions of testing paper in final examination, collected the common errors committed by the students and then divided these errors into the following four classifications:II. Types of ErrorA. Lexical ErrorLexis takes a central role in language study. Vocabulary is the language’s basic element. Without rich vocabulary, people cannot express their ideas and communicate with others and the language seems to be empty. It is enough for college students to write composition when they have mastered 5000 to 6000 words. But when they begin to write, they always don’t know where to start.
