However, the overlap of tissues depicted on conventional 2D mammography may create significant obstacles to the detection and diagnosis of abnormalities. This paper described digital breast tomosynthesis and cone beam breast computed tomography, two new 3D X-ray modalities which could help solve the problem of interpreting mammographic features produced by tissue overlapping, and reduce the recall rate. It is estimated that these two modalities will play an important role in breast cancer early detection and treatment.
