Eliot’s poetry was becoming noted for its fresh visual imagery, its flexible tone, and highly expressive rhythm.(P173) 2. Eliot’s poetry is difficult to read.(P176) a. For one thing the images and symbols seem very much disconnected b. An obvious source of difficult lies in his learned quotations and allusions. 3. Dramatic monologue(P177-178) In The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, the first line,’’ Let us go then, you and I”, suggest that what follows is a dramatic monologue with an audience. “I” presents his inner self .Thus probably he has been talking to himself . 5. His poems are interesting also for its method of presentation.(P179) we do not move in a sequential fashion. Apart from the surreal vividness which characterizes certain parts of the poem, there are elliptical(晦涩的，隐晦的)structures , strange juxtapositions, absence of bridges, so that the whole seems broken ; nothing is explained in a logical manner.
