T he 1st Clinical Hospital of BA I Qiuen Me ical University ( Jilin Changchun, 130021) Abstract Objective To compare the fuctional an morphological changes of the cervical spine of 18 patients (28 isci herniations) un er ifferent irections in herniation of cervical isc ( HCD) . Methods To stu y the effect of ifferent irections of traction on the movement of herniate isc, compression in ex of spinal cor , changes of intervertebral space an the influence on cases w ith egeneration by MRI. Results T here were ifferences among the effects of tract ion in ifferent irections. Most significant partial retraction of the herniate isc w as experience in flexion traction. Both flexion an extension traction cause marke re uction of in ex of compression of spinal cor . Extension traction resulte in marke narrow ing of the posterior e ge of intervertebral space in the group w ith isc size re uction, but there was not much ifference betw een t he groups w ith an w ithout isc size re uct ion un er flexion traction.There was no marke effect on the mor phological changes in cases w ith egeneration in any irection of tract ion. Conclusion HCD change the fine morphological structures of normal vertebral joints. The irection of traction shoul be selecte accor ing to con ition of the in ivi ual case. The compression in ex coul reflect the nature of spinal cor injury better than size of isc protrusion. Tract ion w ill not give much benefit in cases w ith egeneration.
