In “Part 1:Listening Speaking”, listen and recognize subjunctive mood sentences .
Learn how to make short conversations with people on some familiar topics, e.g. make a phone call.
In “Part 2: Reading”, recall the first experience on work and understand want ad.
Master usages of some common words, phrases and structures, e.g. fellow, self-respect, lack, serve, salesman, loan, regular, total, note, honesty, invest, cover, secretary, location, duty, desire, condition, fashion, reward, passion, ambitious, solid, pile into, start out, look up to, have faith in, come true, make a plan, apply for, meet goals, work ethic…
In “Part 3: Translation Writing”, understand the method of translating participle phrases.
Learn how to a letter of apology.
In “Part 4: “Grammar”, master the usage of verb tense.
In “Part 5: “Further Development”, do more oral and written work to consolidate what you have learned in this unit.

Work plays a very important role in our life. By working, we can get what we hope for, such as wealth, comfort, enjoyment, friends, glory, fame, respect and public relationship, etc. So, we all hope to get a better job so that we can live happily. Since all of us hope to get a better job and work well, we have to be faced with a lot of great challenges and stresses. In this way, more and more people are working for longer hours each day. They spend most of time on their work rather than on their play and relaxation. Recent research shows that more than a third of people work at least 50 hours a week, some as many as 60 hours. Almost 14 per cent spend another 11 hours on their work. Long working hours means that people spend less time with their friends and partners, and less time alone.
