Most important of all, I want to give my thanks to my mother university and all the teachers in the English Department, who educated and cultivated me to be a qualified teacher. Abstract Language is the means by which people communicate with each other. Every language has its own culture. If we want to communicate with foreign people without any misunderstanding, we must understand not only their languages, but also their cultures. Proverb is one important branch of culture. Proverb is one of the oldest and most valuable forms of expressions and is a cultural product of human expression, thoughts and feelings expressed by words. Proverbs, the summary of life experiences of the people in a particular area, usually short but reflect the special features of a certain area. Chinese and English proverbs being two treasures of different languages show differences from cultural existence. The essay illustrates and discusses the differences between English and Chinese proverbs from the point of living environment, custom, religious, morality views and history origin. Key Words: proverbs；culture；cultural characteristics; cultural differences 摘要 语言是人们用来交流的工具，每种语言都由自己的文化。如果我们要跟外国人很好的交流，不久要懂得他们的语言，还要懂他们的文化。谚语是英汉文化的一个重要分支。 谚语是人类文化中最古老和最有价值的表达语言形式之一，是人民群众用来表达他们生产生活中的经验启发和感想的各民族文化的结晶。谚语作为习语的一种是语言和文化的结晶。英汉谚
