Abstract
0bjective Inthisstudy,weexaminedthebiodegradationofDichloroethyIene(DCE)bytwostrainsof
aerobicbacteria.
Methods Usingbatchexperiments,wemeasuredthebiOdegradatiOnratesofDCEandtheresidual
concentrationsofDCEforeachbacterialstrain.Thevaryingtrendsinb1Odegradati0nrateswithdifferent
initiaIcOncentratiOnsofDCEwerefittedtokineticmodels.
Results ThebiOdegradatiOnkineticsofDCEbythestrainDT—X,whichusestolueneasco-metabolic
substrate,fittedtheMonodmodel(correspondingparameters:Vmax=O.0075h。。, :==2.12mg/L).The
biodegradationkineticsofDCEbythestrainDT—M,whichuses1,1·DichIOrOethyleneassinglesubstrate,
fittedtheHaldanemodel(parameters:vma=O.0046h~,=4.25mg/L,Ki=8.47mg/L).
Conclusion Thesubstrateremovalrateconstantof1,1·DichIOrOethyleneoftheco—metabolicstrain
DT-X wasmuch higherthanthatofstrainDT—M .ThesubstrateremovalratesobtainedfrOm both
bacterialstrainsinthisstudywerehigherthanthosereportedinsimilarstudies.
