Experimental Studies on the Influence of Moisture in MSW Pyrolysis/Gasification Process

Abstract: The influence of moisture on the characteristics of MSW pyrolysis/gasification process is investigated at a
temperature range of 600-800 by using a large inventory isothermal TGA and an on-line gas product analysis. The total
gas yield, gas composition and HHV of gas products are analyzed through a comparison between the processes with and
without steam at different temperatures. The results indicate that the steam has little influence on the weight loss of MSW
pyrolysis/gasification, while it plays a significant role in the reforming and cracking of gaseous products. The latter effect
becomes more prominent when the operating temperature rises, especially at high temperature. It is found that the existence
of steam makes the total gas yield, combustible composition and HHV of gas products increased greatly at 800 .
