* An increase of 25C is significant in this temperature area for FSR. * This chart compares FKM to FSR at temperatures greater than room temp. This data is from DCC brochure FSRs in extreme applications and the RAPRA report that was used to generate the brochure. * The modulus is a good indication of the stability of FSR properties. This feature alone could lead one to start thinking about what other applications FSRs could be used in. HCRs would also yield a similar stability. * Test temperatures are rising! “Pre-aged” oil has been heated prior to test for 16 hours @ 150C. This breaks down some of the more aggressive additives. Without this step, all elastomers are more severely affected. This pre-age is not an uncommon protocol. * If compound/part economics are truly critical to success, consider formula modifications. Remember, you get what you pay for, but supplying more than what’s needed has no value. * We are presenting this information to show you what may be possible. We didn’t want to wait until all the DOEs were complete, printed and packaged nicely for public consumption. The data presented is based on work taking place in different parts of the world, geographically close to the immediate needs. The learnings, though, can be used anywhere for many industries. FSR is oil and fuel resistant, but a versatile enabler to high end elastomer applications. Some of the data and charts in this presentation are based on new, experimental work. This work is ongoing. Additional data is coming. * The growth is primarily with diesel fuel. Greater fuel efficiency can be realized by using smaller engines. Turbocharging increases the horsepower per liter. * Technical growth in the EU has resulted in Daimler’s “Bluetec” system. This system will inject a small quantity of a urea based solution to convert NOx to N2 and H2O. Term used is “SCR” which stands for Selective Catalytic Reduction. Exhaust filters will be also used to reduce fine particulates. Borg-Warner stated
