For comprehensive utilization of low temperature tar,this paper used low temperature tar, water ,emulsifier to prepare low temperature tar emulsion, the performance of which was studied as the coal flotation agent, finally the preliminary process design of the preparation of low temperature tar emulsion was discussed. We studied the the preparation of low temperature tar emulsion, then investigated the influence of various factors on the particle size of low temperature tar emulsion via single factor experiment and orthogonal experiment, and the type, stability and dispersion was characterized. The results showed that, the optimum conditions for preparation of low temperature tar emulsion is: m (oil):m (water)=3:7, m (oleic acid):m (OP-10)=3:2, emulsifying speed is 16000 r/min, emulsifying temperature is 30 ℃ , emulsifying dosage is 1.5%, emulsifying time is 6 min; The low temperature tar emulsion is oil-in-water type, and has good dispersibility and stability with placing unstratify at room temperature 30d. In order to study the flotation performance of low temperature tar emulsion, we firstly investigated the consist of the particle size of three kinds of coal samples, secondly discussed the effect of the addition of low temperature tar emulsion on flotation performance, finally compared with kerosene using flotation experiment. The results showed that, the Taixi coal is more fragile than gangue, has phenomenon of fine slime accumulation, gangue of Fuxian and Yan`an was more fragile than coal, while phenomenon of the fine slime accumulation of Yan`an coal was more serious; the optimum flotation condi
