II II Abstract With the rapid development of manufacturing industry, how to improve the production efficiency has became a hot research area. Many advanced manufacturing modes, such as flexible manufacturing system (FMS), integrated manufacturing system (CIMS) and so on, have been employed for enterprise manufacturing. And the successful employment of these systems is closely linked with the computer aided design (CAD) technology. Computer aided fixture design (CAFD) technology also has been made a deep research by many scholars. However, due to the lack of intelligent data interface between CAD and CAFD, some data obtained from CAD are difficult to apply on fixture design in CAFD. Hence, it has a practical significance to study the planning system for the workpiece localization. For this purpose, this paper has made the following works: First, the world wide research status of CAFD is introduced. By analyzing the extant problems of fixture design system, the research direction of this paper is determined. Then, some basic knowledge about CAFD is introduced. Theory of constraints analysis model is deduced, and the model solution method based on linear equations is given. With the consideration of analytical hierarchy process and effect factors of localization datum, the hierarchy model is configured to select the localization datum. By comparing the importance of factors in all levels with each others, the judgment matrix between adjacent levels can be constructed by using the scaling method. Its eigenvector will be the level weight vector when the judgment matrix can successfully perform the consistency check. And then, the combination weight vector, which is obtained by multiplying all level weight vectors, can be a decision index of making localization datum.
