Where do we go from here? Summer 2009 – The Faith Nurturing Ministry Team offer an opportunity for churches to sign up to be an “EYE” (Exemplary Youth Enterprise) Church Fall 2009 – The Faith Nurturing Ministry Team will host an orientation and training for EYE Churches. Fall 2009 – Spring 2010 – Special teleconference support groups for EYE leaders in local congregations. Look for the information and invitation in your church office this July/August. This power point presentation is the product of Greg Larsen, Faith Ministry Team member I have been in ministry for 13 years, predominately focused on youth ministry. This Exemplary Youth Ministry study, combined with observations of peers and of my own are compiled here for you today. We’ll talk about the way youth ministry functions poorly in some churches and ways that it functions well in others. By giving you the results of the study to show you why successful churches have successful youth programs. * First, as a church growth coach in the RoMoCo UCC, I have to inform you that not all church’s are going to pull this off. You can’t do a youth program for wrong reasons – like just to have a program for youth that have no other ties to the church other than just being there. This is not a way to grow your church. We are a faith with eyes set on ways to grow the church – this is not something you use as a foundation to grow your church. A result, of church growth, yes. But not a tool to begin with. * This is the model most churches use in youth ministry – a model that has proven to fail most every time in building successful and meaningful relationships. In this model the youth are auxiliary to the main life of the church. So you find them off apart, able to relate to the church through one or two people who are the appointed youth workers. The bulk of the church membership does not interact on a regular base with the youth. * Here is the brain stem model – a model which we’d like to see
