A specifically designed questionnaire applying to two small cohorts, assessed factors affecting their intercultural communication competence and provided empirical support for the reviewed research. The study identifies three key variables relating to intercultural communication competence: public 80 国际新闻界 2016.06 对外传播与跨文化传播研究 diplomacy awareness, communicating willingness, and communicative competence. By applying standard statistical assessments of the data, the study finds out the obvious correlation among the three variables. In particular, it shows that public diplomacy awareness and communicating willingness have significant impacts on the communicative competence of this group of students in China.
