Due to historical reasons, the techniques of this boxing, as it goes along, has been diverse between various players, which leads to disunity and difficulty in exchanges and has a negative influence over the protection and inheritance of the boxing. As Chen Xin, a famous martial artist in Qing dynasty, once said, “playing boxing, no one should violate the established rules”, Hongtong back-passing boxing players should inherit both the kungfu and its techniques. Hence, setting a standard for the boxing techniques and defining its features will enhance its inheritance and healthy development. With the methods of literature consultation, expert interview, field research, and logical analysis, the study analyzed the origin, geography circumstance, customs and historical background of Chinese Hongtong back-passing boxing and gave a thorough and deep discussion about its features and techniques. The study found the following technique features of Chinese Hongtong back-passing boxing: First, variety in rhythms. Quick and Slow The study found that when practicing Hongtong back-passing boxing, the player played “sometimes like an eagle flying in the soft breeze and sometimes like blowing howling winds”, which fully proved the boxing is characteristic of the compatibility of slowness and quickness, motion and stillness, hardness and softness.
