speed/direction,andtidalrange.Riverdischargecannotonlyprovidebuoyancyflux tostratification,butalsoenhancedtheshearinmixlayer.Enhancedshearovercomes thestratificationindicatingriverflowisoneoftheTKEsource.Ahypothesisis proposedtoexplainthewind-inducedmixingmechanism.Surfacewater is transportedupstreamcasingawind-inducedshearthroughbarotropiceffectbasedon volume conservation.InordertoquantifyTKEproductionbyusingenvironmentalvariablesonly,twoassumptionsareproposed:1.Reducedgravity(stratification)doesn’tdependonthe vertical-mixingcoefficientsandvariesonlywiththeriverflow;2.Verticalsheararecomposedbyalinearcombinationbetweenriverdischarge,tidalrangeandwind causedwind.Onthebasisoftheseobservations,wequantifythecontributionof theseforcingmechanismstotheobservedTKEproductionusinganempirical approachbasedonthemarginalvalueofthedischargeFroudenumber(whichis scaledfromtheenvironmentalvariables)aboveacriticalvalueofone.Theresulting regressionprovidesameansforestimatingTKEproductioninthelift-offzoneasa functionofonlytheenvironmentalvariables,andproducesresultsconsistentwith previous observationsfrom otherturbulence measurementtechniques.The regressionalso providesanindicationoftherelativeimportanceofthevarious forcingmechanisms,andsuggeststhateast(onshore)windsandriverdischargeare themostimportantfactorsincontrollingthevarianceassociatedwithTKE Production, with tidal rangeof lessersignificance.Theresearchresultsoutlinedabovemainlyrevealedeffectsofriverdischarge, tidalrangeandwindonthespreadingandmixingprocessesinahighlystratifiedriver plumewhichprovidesometheoreticalevidencetounderstandtheobservationsand physicallyplausibleinter-tidal mixing parameterizations.Key words:Mid-fieldplume, plumespreading, Near-field plume,Turbulent KineticEnergy production, mixing parameterization目录摘要..........................................................................................................................IAbstract........................................................................
