In some countries, the government sanctions corporal punishment in schools as an aid to the education and disciplining of children. But some people strongly oppose such a method, claiming that it amounts to child abuse. They say that discipline should be instilled into children by their parents, and not by teachers. Please air you view on this point. You should write at least 250 words. You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence. Some countries allow—and even encourage—corporal punishment in schools. But some people are utterly opposed to this: They think that corporal punishment is not the best way to teach youngsters how to behave in a responsible manner. They are of the opinion that it is up to the parents of the children to discipline them, whether by means of corporal punishment or some other method. For my part, I agree with those who object to corporal punishment in schools, for the following two reasons: In the first place, the mission of educating the young to be useful to society and to avoid wrongdoing can be fulfilled in many ways, among which corporal punishment is by no means the most desirable one. Numerous studies have been done on this problem, and all of them have found that corporal punishment administered by teachers retards the educational progress of children. The studies conclude that parents are the best people to instill in their children the ability to distinguish right from wrong. In the second place, the practice of corporal punishment in schools has many undesirable results, not only for the children themselves, but also for their families and for society as a whole. For example, corporal punishment can give a child a sense of being unjustly treated, and make him or her rebellious.
