Indeed, even with nutritionally adequate and balanced environmental friendly diets, bad feeding practices can lead to significant feed losses causing adverse effects on water quality and decrease the sustainability of aquatic animal production. The following points are of interest: feeding frequency, feed allowance and feeding strategy. The feeding frequencies should be considered depending upon two major factors (body size, temperature) both of which affect the rate of passage of feedstuffs through the digestive tract. From a practical point of view, in order to optimise ration levels, fish farmers generally rely upon either feeding charts provided by feed manufacturers or they themselves empirically derive feeding charts.
