Methods:T w enty sp ecim ens from congenital muscular tort icollis w ere collected . T he control sp ecim ens w ere collected from norm al tendon samples . Ex pression of SM A w as detected u sing immunohistochem istry and computer image evaluation in tw entyone cases and ten norm al tendon sm aples. Results: T her e w as no sig nif icant expression of SM A in control group ex cept f or the positive reaction in the smooth muscle cells of the sm all vascular w alls. Eighteen sp ecim ens of congenital muscular torticollis w ere positive f or SM A. T hree specimen s of congenital muscle tort icollis w ere negative f or SM A.
