5/24/2004 ANSYS ICEMCFD Training July 30, 1999 Mesh Editing ICEMCFD/AI*Environment 5.0 Mesh Editing in AI*Environment AI*Environment contains powerful and easy to use mesh editing tools Manipulate Mesh Check Mesh Improve mesh quality There are Manual and Automatic tools Imported or created mesh can be edited Checking the Mesh Users can select any combination of possible errors and problems to check Clicking on ‘Error’ or ‘Possible Problems’ will select all options in column (hyper-link) Brief definitions follow . . . Mesh Errors Duplicate Elements: Locates elements that share all nodes with other elements of the same type Uncovered Faces: All faces on a volumetric element should either be attached to the face of another volumetric element or to a surface element (usually indicates a hole in the volumetric mesh) Missing Internal Faces: Between every pair of volume elements of different parts there must be a surface element Periodic Problems: Checks surface parts that have periodic faces for inconsistency in the periodicity of the nodes Possible Problems Multiple Edges: Elements with at least one edge that shares three or more elements (Legitimate multiple edges would be found at a T junction, where more than two geometry surfaces meet) Triangle Boxes: Groups of 4 triangles that form a tetrahedron with no actual volume element inside 2 -Single Edges: Elements with two single edges (these are either corners of baffles or are triangles that are protruding from a surface like a sharks fin) Single-Multiple Edges: Elements that have both single and multiple edges Stand-Alone Surface Mesh: Surface elements that dont share a face with a volumetric element Displaying Mesh Quality Displaying Mesh Quality Displaying Mesh Quality Controlling the Quality Histogram Select bar(s) on histogram with left mouse button (turns pink) If “show” is checked, the elements are highlighted in the display window If “solid” is checked, the elements will appear as solid wire, even if the oth
